This is a replica of the Great Seal that would have been attached to each copy of the Magna Carta. John appears seated on a throne, holding a sword in his right hand and a sceptre in his left, and with the legend ‘+ IOHANNES DEI GRACIA REX ANGLIE DOMINVS HIBERNIE’ (John, by the grace of God King of England and Lord of Ireland).
